Improve Your Life Today

When it comes to our health and fitness, we’re understandably deeply invested in our future. After all, it’s a literal matter of life and death. Poor health leads to a shorter life and a lower quality of life, so it’s in our best interest to take care of ourselves. That’s easier said than done, of course, as modern life is fraught with insidious perils. These perils take the form of luxuries. We have it too good, in other words. We spend an inordinate amount of time sitting these days, be it for work or for play, and our diets are rich in processed foods. These two factors, more than anything, contribute to the health epidemic we currently face. Because of the counter intuitive nature of this problem, we’re not all that good at correcting the problem, so it falls to us as individuals to take our health into our own hands. Here are some suggestions to help you improve your life today.

First and foremost, let’s talk about diet. Our diets these days are chock full of processed foods, and that’s a problem, because these convenient food items are chock full of additives that make them nutritionally bankrupt. Processed foods have become ubiquitous due the their convenience and low price point, but the trade off is an excess of salt and sugar that create some problems for our bodies. For one thing, sugar is an addictive substance, and our diets are overflowing with it because of how these items are made. This makes these items harder to put down and less nutritious. Therefore, we need to eliminate these items from our diets. Therefore, you’ll want to replace them with home cooked meals made with fresh ingredients. Your body will thank you when you see benefits both immediately and in the long term.

Next on the list is exercise. As mentioned above, we sit too much, so step one is stand more. Specifically, walking, or even jogging or running, more often can help reverse the damage that sitting for hours on end does to our bodies. Sitting too much weakens the muscles that would otherwise work to hold our bodies upright, and that can lead to hernias, chronic back pain, and more. You’ll also want to come up with a workout routine that targets your specific weaknesses to help you get into shape. Then, the hard part is sticking with it. Many of us give to frustration when we struggle to keep up, but struggling is the point, because that’s how you improve. Keep that in mind, and you’re good to go.
